Picture this: Conceiving, developing, and executing strategic initiatives that drive revenues, growth, competitive market positioning, profits, and shareholder value. That is what I plan to do when I enter the work force. A great example of how I’m working to hone these skills is a school project that tasked me with finding a client to put their trust in me to find creative, disruptive solutions to their concerns. I copyedited a 22-page document and creatively reimagined something my client could proudly utilize in production. It started with detailed discussions with the client to determine requirements, problem statements, and goals to create a new vision for the deliverable and how we would meet and exceed the goals.
My client was using Operational Visions to explain the operational vision of the product they would be rolling out and to ensure the employees involved were adequately trained. Putting my communication skills to the test, the comprehensive editing created a modernized version that showed professionalism while keeping the intended audience enthralled with the information being presented.
Project:
Successfully completing this project taught me valuable lessons that I can take with me for future projects. It taught me to listen and adapt so that my client and I could reach a final product that we were satisfied with. It also utilized my skills as a copyeditor and a comprehensive editor. Using the skills learned throughout my Technical Communication education, I could efficiently and effectively communicate with my client in a highly professional manner. This project gave me a taste of a real-world environment, and the acquired skills will support my career continuously.
In producing this deliverable, we aimed to reach the intended audience and keep the document broad enough for my client to use for multiple companies. Using design and organizational skills, I developed the final product that met and exceeded all customer expectations.
